As the just discovered lump in my throat grew, JESUS
told me it was cancer and for me to just trust Him.
I went to the doctor in March of 1997. After surgery,
I was given the official diagnosis. It had advanced
to my lymph nodes and was fast growing.
I went straight to my instruction book, THE BIBLE,
to see how to handle this as I had never had to deal
with anything like this before. The Bible said for me
to call for the elders of the church to pray. This I
did. Jesus whispered "Just trust me." This
I did.
As my treatments began, I drew closer to Jesus for
comfort. His precious WORD was like a life raft. The
words were strength to me and I found shelter under
His wings of peace. He gave me a peace that passeth
all understanding - Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep
him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee: because
he trusteth in Thee."
One day while sitting in the waiting room of the cancer
center waiting for a radiation treatment, I needed some
reassurance from my friend Jesus. I brushed through
the magazines on the table beside me looking for a Gideon
Bible. Surely there must be one, I thought to myself.
You see, Jesus talks to me through His Word. Sure enough,
there it was. As I opened the Bible, it came alive and
warmed my whole body, mind and soul, even before I read
a word. Blessed assurance flooded my soul as my Savior
filed me with His presence. I read a Psalms and Jesus
whispered "Fear Not." I was now ready to go
forward again.
Just like He promised in His Word, He is the very
present help in the time of trouble. I gave Him my heavy
load and He took it from me. He comforted me through
cards and letters from His people. He talked to me through
the Bible. He sent me messages through His preachers.
He spoke to me through songs, birds, flowers, stars,
the moon and clouds. He used the arms of my friends
and family to hold me. He put me on the hearts of my
church family and they prayed. He filled me with His
presence. He woke me sometimes with Scriptures racing
across my mind - such as: "Call on me in the day
of trouble: I WILL deliver thee." Psalms 50:15
and "Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have
called thee by thy name; thy art mine."
Jesus took my fear and replaced it with peace like
I have never known. He gave me strength to attend church
and sing through 35 radiation treatments.
I do not know if I am free of cancer but I do now
know for sure, through experience, that His grace is
sufficient. No matter what the future holds for me,
I will never be alone. There is nothing going to happen
to me except that which Jesus will either allow or order.
He has all power in Heaven and on earth and He loves
me. This I know!! He died for me to prove it.
I guess Psalms 59:16 says it best for me. "But
I will sing of thy power; yea I will sing aloud of thy
mercy in the morning; for Thou hast been my defense
and refuge in the day of my trouble."
Thank You JESUS!!

P.S. Jesus gave me a song to put to words from the
experience with the Gideon Bible in the Cancer center.
The name of it is "TALK TO ME JESUS." I recorded
it and named my new album after it. I now sing with
a stronger voice and deeper faith in JESUS CHRIST.
